During the Second World War, the historical center of Warsaw was destroyed and rebuilt so skillfully and so close to the style of the original buildings that it was even listed by UNESCO as an exemplary example of scientific restoration. Now Warsaw is a charming city with an architecture reminiscent of toy houses that you want to look at and take pictures for a long time. After exploring the main attractions of the capital and wandering along the streets of the Old Town, we advise you to rent a car and spend a few days on the outskirts of Warsaw, where you can find nice places to relax.

Royal Palace photo

The palace of the XVII century, made in the Baroque-classical spirit. The second after the Wawel Castle in Krakow, the residence of the Polish kings. Napoleon I met here, and Nicholas I was crowned king of Poland. During World War II, the palace was completely destroyed and rebuilt only by 1988. The halls of the palace are decorated with paintings belonging to members of the royal family, among them are paintings by Rembrandt, Mateiko and Bellotto.

Park "Lazenki"

ul. Agrykoli 1

www.lazienki-krolewskie.pl/pl

Park "Lazenki" photo

The largest park in Warsaw, which arose on a fenced area of the forest, where the Polish kings liked to hunt. At the entrance to the park you will be greeted by a monument to Chopin (the music of the great composer sounds here on weekends), and the picturesque alleys will lead to buildings of the Classicism era: the Palace on the Water, the White House, the Myslewice Palace and the Old Greenhouse. Do not be afraid of the impressive size of the park: even if you get lost, you can easily find the way back and enjoy the walk along the forest paths.

Near the Lazienki Park you will see the residence of King Augustus II, where the Center for Contemporary Art is now located. Interactive exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, performances, concerts - a rich poster with events for every taste. On weekends, the Center opens an eco-platform where, for example, you can listen to lectures on healthy eating, learn how to dance tango and go to the eco-market, which attracts farmers from all over Poland.

Frederic Chopin Museum

ul. Okólnik 1

Frederic Chopin Museum photo

The multimedia museum of the Polish composer occupies a beautiful baroque palace, where Chopin gave his first concerts. The museum exposition tells about the composer's life and presents his personal items; Each exhibit has an audio guide installed that tells the story of a particular thing. For lovers of classical music, there is a special room where you can sit at a separate table, put on headphones and listen to any Chopin's work. The museum is considered one of the most modern in Poland, so you can forget about all these “do not touch your hands” and “talk quietly, you’re in the museum”.

Copernicus Science Center

Copernicus Science Center photo

Excursions to historical places of Warsaw are recommended to be diluted with a trip to the interactive educational center "Copernicus", breaking stereotypes that science is difficult and boring. Here you can conduct an experiment yourself in a special laboratory, learn how to use a fire bow, see a performance at the High Voltage Theater and go to a laser show at the planetarium. If you travel with children, then Copernicus must be included in your must see list in Warsaw. We recommend you to come here on weekdays, as on weekends the center is very crowded; tickets can be purchased on the official website.

Near Warsaw: the best car routes

Modlin

Modlin photo

30 km away from Warsaw is the Novogeorgiev Fortress or Modlin Fortress, built on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte. During the Polish uprising in 1830, the fortress was the base of the rebels, until it was surrounded by Russian troops and forced the rebels to surrender. At the direction of Nicholas I, Modlin Fortress was expanded and in 1834 it was renamed Novogeorgievsk. We recommend wandering around the fortress, where old casemates have been preserved, and climb the Tatar Tower, which overlooks the courtyard and the surroundings of Modlin.

Zhelyazova Volya

Zhelyazova Volya photo

The village of Zhelyazova Volya, where Frederic Chopin was born, can be reached by rental car in less than an hour. About 65 people live in the village and, of course, the pride and main attraction of this quiet and picturesque place is the house where Chopin was born. The estate belonged to Count Skarbek, the parents of the future composer worked here: his mother was a housekeeper, and his father served as a tutor for the children of the count. A few years after the birth of a son, the family moved to Warsaw, but Frederick often came to Zhelyazova Volya for a vacation. During World War I, the estate was destroyed, but after it was restored in the style of a traditional Polish estate. Now a museum is open here, where concerts are held every summer with the participation of pianists from around the world.

Pulawy

Pulawy photo

In Pulawy, there is a manor house of the influential princely family of the Czartoryski, who founded the first museum in Poland here in 1801. The manor is one of the largest classic-style palace and park ensembles in Europe. Be sure to walk through the beautiful landscape park, go to the Temple of Seville (the very first museum) and the Gothic house, where the regional museum of the Polish Local History Society operates.

Одódзь

Lodz photo

Drive a car about 130 km south-west of Warsaw and you will find yourself in the city of Lodz, the center of the Polish electronics industry. The city is known for its architecture: old industrial buildings look like real palaces, many of them are open to visitors, and some have museums. For example, the Textile Museum was opened in the White Factory building, and the Museum of the History of the City operates on the territory of the former Israeli Poznansky weaving factory. Take a walk along Piotrkovskaya Street - this is the longest pedestrian street in the country with many shops, cozy restaurants, bars and cafes where you can have a great time after a walk around the city. By the way, for a long time Lodz was considered the capital of Polish cinema: several film studios and recording studios were located in the city, and the Higher School of Cinema, founded here in 1948,

Kazimierz Dolny

Kazimierz Dolny photo

We recommend starting a walk in the ancient city of Kazimierz Dolny with the Market Square, where the ancient well is located. Next, head to the Small Market - here you will see the old synagogue, reminiscent of how in the 17th century after the Polish-Swedish war, the King of Poland called the Jews to the city to help revive the city’s economy, which they did very well. If you go up Zamkova Street, you will find yourself at the ruins of the Royal Castle, in which, according to rumors, King Casemir the Great secretly met his mistress Esther. And after walking along the path leading from the castle, you will find yourself on the Hill of Three Crosses, where you can see a wonderful panorama of the city and the Vistula River.

Food: atmospheric restaurants, cafes and bars

U kucharzy

U Kucharzy photo

At U Kucharzy, they don’t hide anything from visitors: chefs cook in the open kitchen right in front of the restaurant guests and, if asked well, can, for example, tell how to cook traditional Polish meat pate. The design of the institution is quite simple and is made in the style of a classic Polish restaurant, where all the attention is given to food, not to the scenery. Thanks to the large wine list, you can pick up wine for any dish and create the perfect flavor combination for yourself.

Qchnia Artystyczna

Jazdów 2 www.qchnia.org

Qchnia Artystyczna photo

Restaurant in the Uyazdovo Palace with a luxurious terrace and stunning views of the Vistula and the adjacent park. A cozy place that is suitable for breakfast and for dinner by candlelight to the sounds of some romantic ballad. The menu contains interesting variations of European dishes for the most demanding tastes. Order cold avocado soup and chicken fillet with honey and blackberries and you won’t miss out.

Pierogarnia na bednarskiej

ul. Bednarska 28/30 www.pierogarnianabednarskiej.pl/

Pierogarnia na Bednarskiej photo

In this small cafe with shabby wooden furniture and dim lights in the spirit of the old tavern, you need to come very hungry (and the stronger, the better) to try as many Polish pies - dumplings with different fillings as possible. They are sprinkled with fried onions or dill, and can be served even with slices of orange - it all depends on the mood and imagination of the cook. Each serving has six pies, so you definitely won’t leave hungry. Add to this another bowl of soup and compote and you will get a real dinner, hearty and tasty, right at home.

Kraken rum bar

Poznańska 12 www.facebook.com/KrakenRumBar

Kraken Rum Bar photo

Seafood and many types of rum - this is the concept of the Kraken bar, which, incidentally, the owners named after the Caribbean rum of the same name. Kraken works until the morning, so if you have no plans for the evening, we advise you to stay here after dinner and feel like the king of the dance floor, lighting up under synth pop. For food, you should try Polish pickled herring with onions and rye brown bread, which goes well with both rum and homemade beer.

Bar studio

Plac Defilad 1 www.facebook.com/barstudio.warszawa

Bar Studio photo

The bar at the Studio Theater, where the actors gather after the performance and share the latest gossip of the theater party with a glass of wine or something stronger. The best bartenders of the city work here who like to experiment and create simply breathtaking cocktails for every taste and mood. Take a table on the terrace with a beautiful view of the square and order a herring soaked in wine with curd cream or pasta with mushrooms and nuts - the impressions of such an easy and pleasant dinner in a romantic setting will replenish the treasury of memories of your trip to Warsaw.
