Italy photo

Whatever Italian city you come to, you can relax and get to know the unique Italian culture everywhere, which, no matter how loud it sounds, is admired by everyone. We caution you against the main mistake of the majority of tourists coming to Italy - to see everything immediately and preferably quickly. So you will definitely not feel and guess Italy. Traveling in this distinctive and colorful country should be unhurried. Do not try to visit all the places described in the guidebook, but rather, generally forget about it and often make spontaneous walks and trips that will give you an unforgettable experience. We advise you to think about renting a car - this is perhaps the most convenient transportation option for those who want to travel around the country and see several cities.

Holidays in Italy

Dolomites: the best ski resorts

Val di Fassa

Val di Fassa photo

The resort in the heart of the Dolomites is famous for its magnificent natural views. 220 kilometers of ski slopes, 9 ski areas, excellent hotels with quality service and well-developed infrastructure - excellent conditions for practicing your favorite sport are created here for beginners and already experienced skiers. Rumor has it that good spirits used to live in the Fassa Valley, which you can easily believe: in Val di Fassa you instantly forget about all the problems and are left alone with nature, charging only positive energy. Fassa Valley is easily accessible by car from the airport in Bolzano.

Val Gardena

Val Gardena photo

The north-western part of the Dolomites is occupied by the Val Gardena Valley, which consists of three resort areas: Ortisei, Santa Cristina and Selva Gardena. Val Gardena is suitable not only for adult skiers, but also for children: for the smallest climbers of the mountains, convenient slopes and lifts are open here, which, incidentally, are free for kids under 7 years old. Do not be surprised when you see the names in German on local signs: until the beginning of the 20th century, the region belonged to Austria-Hungary. Please note that there is no free ski bus in Val Garden, and bus and taxi rides are not cheap, so we advise you to rent a car to move freely between resort towns and not be tied to local transport schedules.

Alta Badia

Alta Badia is located on the corner of the Sella mountain range, around which the famous Sella Ronda route passes. Alta Badia combines 6 small resort areas connected by a system of lifts. The liveliest resort is Corvara, and the most suitable for families is the village of Badia, located at the foot of the Sasso S. Croce mountain. The airport closest to Alta Badia is in Bolzano (100 km), where you can use a car rental service and get to the ski resort fairly quickly.

Arabba

In the very center of the Sella mountain range is located the resort of Arabba, which is more suitable for experienced skiers than beginners. Arabba is considered one of the best places in the Alps for freeriding. Having enjoyed skiing on local routes, you can, for example, rent a car and go to Venice, which can be reached from Arabba in just 2.5 hours.

Rules of the road, parking, toll roads

Toll roads

In Italy, tolls on roads and some tunnels are paid. The fare depends on the vehicle category, type of road, and also on the management company (if the route belongs to several companies, then the cost of each section of the road is calculated separately).

There are several ways to pay for a trip:

  • Yellow bars - payment only through the Telepass system;
  • Blue bars - self-service, payment by credit card or Viacard;
  • White bars - self-service, cash, credit card or Viacard;
  • White lines with operator - cash, credit card or Viacard.

Special Pay Roads

Tunnel Mont Blanc (length 11 611 meters) - passes under the Mont Blanc mountain and connects the French city of Chamonix and the city of Courmayeur in northern Italy. Information about the fare for this tunnel can be found on the website of this road.

Great St. Tunnel Bernard (5,787 meters long) is a tunnel connecting the Valle d'Aosta region in Italy and the Valais canton in Switzerland. Fares are presented on the website of this tunnel.

Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road is a panoramic alpine road connecting the Ötztal valley in Tirol (Austria) and the Passeier valley in the province of Bolzano (Italy).
