How to refuel a rental car. Fuel policy of rental companies. How much fuel to return a rented car with?

The fuel policy of the company in which you intend to rent a car is the criterion that you should pay attention to before you draw up a contract. It happens that after the rental car is returned, a certain amount is debited from the bank card from the client, or not the entire deposit amount is unlocked. As it turns out later, funds were written off from the client for the missing fuel or fined for an incomplete tank in a rented rental car.

To prevent such a situation from happening to you, in this article we will analyze the most common 8 options for fuel policies presented on the global car rental market on which Bookingcar operates.

1.

Fuel policy of a rental company

This is the most common option regarding refueling a rented car, and it is very easy to use. Simply put, how much fuel was in the tank, so much must be returned. If, when returning the car, there is a shortage of fuel, then you will have to pay for the missing liters at the prices of the rental company, it can be 2 and 3 or even 5 euros.

2.

The second option differs from the first in that if for some reason you returned the rented car with a full tank, then in addition to paying for the missing fuel, you will be charged an administrative fee (refueling cost) plus if the return was made at the airport or at the station, this may be supplemented by airport or train charges.

3.

Fuel policy of a rental company

In this option, a deposit + the cost of a full tank of fuel is blocked on your bank card during the issuance of the car. The cost of a full tank, of course, depends on the class of car you have booked, and most often varies from 80 to 150 euros. If you returned a rental car with the same amount of fuel as at issue, your deposit + the cost of a full tank will be fully unlocked. If you did not manage to refuel the car, then you will be charged the administrative fee for lack of fuel + the cost of a full tank, which was blocked when the car was issued.

4.

According to this fuel policy, a deposit + the cost of a full tank of fuel is blocked on your bank card during the issuance of the car. If you rented a car with a full tank, the entire amount will be unlocked on your card, if there is not enough fuel in the tank, the rental company will simply keep the previously blocked full tank cost.

5.

The fuel policy presented above means that you pay a full tank of the rented car when you issue it and are free to return it with any amount of fuel. Less is better.

6.

The above method of calculating fuel spent during car rental is a fairly popular additional service that many rental companies offer to purchase. The point is that you are offered to buy an additional service called: “Quick return system” or ”FullTank”.

As a rule, the cost of such a service — this is the price for 2/3 of the full tank of the rented car. This service is beneficial only if you are sure that you are using a whole tank of fuel. If you decide to use this service, you can return the car with any amount of fuel. If you see this information window when choosing a car, this means that this company uses only such a fuel policy.

7.

There is an option when the rental company allows any alternative method of calculating the fuel used only when renting from 4 days. This means that when renting from 1 to 3 days, you must return the car with the same amount of fuel with which you received it, otherwise you may be charged an administrative penalty + the cost of the missing fuel, or withhold a previously blocked deposit for a full tank of a rented car.

When renting from 4 days, you have the opportunity to purchase a full tank of fuel during the issuance of a car to you, or purchase a service “Quick return system” (”FullTank”).

8.

In this option, the company allows you to use the service “Quick return system” or “FullTank” when renting from 3 days. Normal fuel return is described as we already know. The only thing you will need to be sure to keep a check from refueling, which must be presented upon return  car rental.

Please note that some companies charge extra if you rent a car with a diesel engine. As a rule, this price varies between 1.5 and 2.5 euros per one day rental.

In conclusion, I would like to say that on our Bookingcar website, you are sure to find a suitable and profitable way to pay for fuel. Always and in all rental companies you have the opportunity to avoid additional costs. Whenever you return the same amount of fuel that you received, you no longer have any financial obligations. If you purchase a service “Quick return system” or “FullTank”, then you don’t have a headache at all about the amount of fuel in the tank.

Tip: if you intend to refuel the car on the day of return and right before departure, then do it either in the city or in 15-20 kilometers to the airport. Quite often, there are no gas stations at all on the way to the airport, or they are all located on the other side of the road.
